The Society was founded on

13th February 1971 as

The Welsh Philatelic Society.

As the main focus of the Society

changed,

from philately to postal history,

it was renamed

The Welsh Postal History Society

on the 21st June 2014.

The Welsh Postal History Society holds an annual residential Weekend Meeting at

Plas Tan-y-Bwlch (The Snowdonia National Park Study Centre), Maentwrog, near

Porthmadog, Gwynedd. This takes place on the third weekend in June, from Friday

evening to Sunday lunchtime, and includes the Annual General Meeting, displays by

a guest speaker and members, and a live/postal auction. Some members arrive on the

Thursday to allow time to sample the delights of the North Wales countryside.

The formal business of the weekend commences after dinner on the Friday with a

light-hearted 3-sheet competition for the Society Egg-cup.  The Society also holds three

other meetings each year in south-, north- and mid-Wales, which generally take the

form of morning and afternoon main displays, followed by contributions from other

members. One or two dealers are usually present with their stocks of postal history or

postcards for members to browse.

In addition to the auction at the Weekend Meeting, two postal auctions of Welsh

postcards and postal history are held annually.

The Society publishes an attractive and informative Newsletter three times a year.

All past issues of the Newsletter have been digitally recorded and can be accessed

by members as .pdf (portable document format) files.

The Society is renowned for its hospitality and friendly welcome, and has around

150 members from all parts of the United Kingdom, and from Europe, Asia and the

United States of America.

Anyone interested in any aspect of Welsh philately, postal history, or postcards,

would find membership advantageous and should contact the Membership Secretary,

Aled Rhys-Jones (see under CONTACT).
